Choosing to defer work or uni for 12 months to serve God through YMT is the greatest privilege and is definitely a life defining decision. In our history, it’s a call that more than 200 young people have heard and responded to and it’s on their shoulders that our current teams stand.
Backed by 22 years experience, Youth Mission Team Australia offers a unique missionary opportunity for young people who:
want to be on the cutting edge of the new evangelisation
want to grow personally in both faith & character
want to be equipped with life skills that they’ll continue to benefit from for many years to come.
want to experience the dynamic of team work & how to grow in close committed friendships
want to discover & develop their leadership potential
want to change history by impacting this generation of young people with a message of eternal hope.
Serving on YMT, you contribute to, and are surrounded by, a ministry model that offers a powerful combination of the following:
Training & formation: Getting together with all 4 teams, 3 times a year for training at the YMT national training centre in Wollongong is an unforgettable experience. The quality of the training and the encouragement you draw from one another are absolute highlights.
An extreme life: the YMT lifestyle is one that empowers you spiritually & personally and ensures that we’re authentically living the message we’re preaching.
Ministry: As a team member, you’ll have the chance to minister to between 3000 and 4000 students in schools during your year of YMT. You’ll also be engaged in implementing a range of follow-up activities that provide a network of on-going support and encouragement for individual young people as they grow to deeper maturity in faith and character.
Leadership: serving on YMT gives you an opportunity to work alongside some of the most experienced youth ministers in the country – the continuity provided by the leadership means you’re exposed to expertise that’s been developed over decades.
Christian community: not only do you have the strength of being part of a team, but you also experience the life & support of one of the most significant Christian organisations in the life of the Australian Church: the Disciples of Jesus Covenant Community. The Community provides a huge proportion of the spiritual, pastoral & material support necessary for YMT to successfully & responsibly deliver ministry at this level, year after year after year

3. MEET
We’ll arrange to meet by phone or in person. After receiving your application, either the local manager, Tim or Steve, will contact you to arrange to meet by phone or in person. The meeting is a chance for us to get to know you better and to give you a chance to ask any questions you may have.
4. DECIDE
A decision is made: How quickly a decision is made will vary from person to person depending on their personal circumstances. If you’re offered a place on YMT for the following year, the next step is to finalise your location.
WHERE WOULD I SERVE?
Being a national organisation, you have the opportunity of serving in any of our 4 existing YMT locations. The decision to join YMT and the decision as to what location you will ultimately serve in, is one we come to with you after a process of discussion & mutual discernment.
