On the 8th of October 1985, a man shared a vision that would become reality. The outcome of this vision has affected the lives of many young people throughout this country. You will go as young men and women who are coming from what the world would call a radical lifestyle.... |

“I believe that the Lord wants to send single people out as missionaries. The Lord would want to send you from something, to something, for something. Matthew 28: Jesus said to them “...Go therefore and make disciples of all nations”. I believe that the Lord wants to send single men and women into secondary schools. One TOTAL year! One year to put aside everything - to take a year off from your work, or from your study; to put you in houses with other men and women who feel this same call on their heart. I believe the Lord wants to call this THE DISCIPLES YOUTH MISSION TEAM. I believe that the Lord wants us to live in these houses in total commitment and sisterhood and brotherhood, to go out as missionaries of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now this will require that you would need training and that you would need total financial support. You don’t have to worry about money. You see the sadness is that so much of God's work can’t be because some people worry about money. The Lord is also telling us to be vision oriented not problem oriented. I believe that we will evangelise in the schools by teaching the gospel, by organising camps, and by counseling. If you are thinking about this you are going to work hard. Very hard. You won’t be taking people out; your recreation and your life will be with the brothers and the sisters within the Community. And when you go into the schools, you will go as Disciples of Jesus Christ, you will go as young men and women, who are living what the world could call a radical lifestyle. I would see the kind of life that you would live as being, of a morning before you go out, you would have common prayer and private prayer. You will be saturated with the Holy Spirit. When you come back at night, you’ll be refreshed by the brothers and sisters, by sleep, by rest, and by prayer, and you’ll go forth again. These young people WILL respond to the gospel if we tell them from a lifestyle point of view; if we present ourselves as real living Disciples of Jesus. We should not be afraid to proclaim the gospel. We should come to the young people as a light shining, we should come only after we have spent time each morning in prayer. We will be going out like lambs among wolves, and we need to be as gentle as a dove, yet, as cunning as a serpent. I cannot emphasise enough the need for us to be saturated in prayer. I believe that it is only through the power of God that we will be able to do this great work. If we go out without the hand of God on us, we will fail. The word that we will preach will be like a two-edged sword. It will cut like a knife through the false doctrines that the world is teaching in many areas. Young people, I wish to call from the Community, now, those who would like to try for twelve months to see if they like serving the Lord in this way...” Colin Sutton |
